You show up to class every day. You listen, drill, and get your sweat on. But there is a lot of information going on here. How do I remember all this stuff?
The short answer: you don't. What each student takes away from the curriculum depends on where they are at in their journey. For new students, start at the beginning. When we cover a long series on a topic, we always start with the basic moves and techniques, and then start to move into more advanced series. First time seeing a position? Just focus on the first week or two of content. Try to incorporate those ideas into your rounds and make them the beginning point of your Jiu Jitsu. Much of these beginnings are captured in our BJJ 101 class and Google Classroom. This is your beginning.
The next time around, you will be seeing the content for the second time. You will have more experience under your belt, and are ready for me. The beginning portions of the curriculum should be review, and now you are ready to develop a more in depth game as we continue through the curriculum track.
These are your learning expectations. Don't expect to learn it all. The curriculum is structured to teach fundamentals first. Stay focused on these, and then move on. The latter portions of a curriculum block are still relevant to you. You may not be able to incorporate the techniques into your game, but you will be introduced to the concepts. Those ideas will come in to play down the road, when you are reintroduced to the technique.
